Newly Updated Cedar River Room

Monday, January 22A private reception at Beaverton Activity Center served as a debut for a renovation of the second floor Cedar River Room. For many years the room housed Beaverton High School business education classes. After February 1, it will be available for use for conferences and special presentations. White and glass boards will complement a seventy- inch touchscreen webcam monitor, with condenser mic. The entire system will provide a unique bluetooth connectivity opportunity allowing participants to make creative use of graphics and information. A high-tech conference table and a smaller breakout and brainstorm area are also featured. The room will be used for business and educational presentations encouraging our small community to "think big." It all ties in to the original mission statement of the Activity Center, linking the community's past and present with a promising future.Former Beaverton High School business teacher Howard Weaver was one of the guests who had an opportunity to see the room in operation at the reception. Weaver, born and raised in Gladwin, approached BAC officials in 2017 and proposed a remodeling project for the very room where he taught business classes in 1960 and 1961. Weaver, who now lives in Southeastern Michigan, went on to form his own highly successful business education company. In first suggesting the renovation, he encouraged a project committee to " think big" in encouraging growth in the fields of business, education, and community development. The committee came back with a plan to design a high- tech room that also featured historical displays depicting the evolution of business education in Beaverton Schools. Mr. Weaver liked the concept, and ended up being one of the many special people on site January 22. Persons interested in renting the room can do so beginning February 1 by completing a room use request at beavertonactivitycenter.com Additional information about the Cedar Room project is posted under the "Room Use" tab of the BAC Website.
